 👉What Is HIV?

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that weakens the body's immune system. It attacks CD4 cells (T-cells), which help fight infections. If not treated, HIV can turn into AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), a condition where the immune system becomes very weak.



How Does HIV Spread?



HIV spreads through body fluids like blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. The main ways people get HIV are:

  1. Unprotected sex - Having sex without using a condom or protection.

  2. Sharing needles - Using infected needles for drugs, tattoos, or medical treatments.

  3. Blood transfusions - Receiving infected blood that has not been tested properly.

  4. Mother-to-child transmission - A pregnant woman with HIV can pass the virus to her baby during birth or breastfeeding.

  5. Unsafe tattooing or piercing - Using unclean needles or tools.

Where Did HIV Come From?



HIV was first noticed in the 1980s, but scientists believe it started in Central Africa in the 1920s. It is linked to the Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV), found in monkeys. People may have got the virus by eating infected animals or coming into contact with them.

👉Is There a Cure for HIV?



There is no full cure for HIV yet, but it can be controlled with medicines called Antiretroviral Therapy (ART). These medicines help people with HIV live long and healthy lives.

👉How to Prevent and Treat HIV:

  1. Take ART medicines - Helps control the virus and keep the immune system strong.

  2. Use PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) - A medicine for people at high risk of HIV.

  3. Use PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) - A medicine taken within 72 hours of possible HIV exposure to prevent infection.

  4. Practice safe sex - Always use protection like condoms.

  5. Do not share needles - Always use clean and new needles.

  6. Prevent mother-to-child transmission - Pregnant women with HIV should take ART medicines to protect their babies.
